Reddit user claims reusable bamboo wipes are good for skin health

If you’re not familiar with reusable paper towels, they’re exactly what they sound like: absorbent paper, usually made from bamboo, that can be tossed around and washed over and over again at your convenience. Pretty cool, right? They’ve become a popular alternative to traditional paper towels because they’re easy to use and save money, but what most people may not know is that they can also be good for your skin.
Let me explain: While browsing the popular Reddit subreddit r/AsianBeauty, we came across an interesting post from a user who believes bamboo paper towels play a key role in their skin care routine. Yes, meaning our hearts were blown.
The user (under the username “comfortxcute”) initially explained that reusable wipes were the perfect gimmick, but eventually gave in and bought a pack of wipes. However, they did not get along well in the kitchen. “They were good in the kitchen, not very good, just okay. “I tossed them in the laundry and they turned into cute little fluffy towels filled with wonderful goodies,” they added. They said that since they did such a good job in the kitchen, they kept them. them in the toilet in the bathroom for cleaning.
Their next suggestion really piqued my interest. “I quickly ran out of clean towels, so I grabbed one of those bamboo towels that absorb just enough water to keep my face ‘perfectly damp’ for the next product.” The skin often feels a little dry after drying your face with a regular terry cloth.
They go on to explain that they also use it as a way to retain more moisture during the winter months, which we all know is a tough time for our terrible skin. “I run the mask under very hot water, wring out the water, place a towel over my face and enjoy a mini facial/steam treatment,” they explain the process. “As soon as I remove the loofah, I start applying the hydrating toner and it absorbs better,” they add. They ended the post with a link to the specific brand they use, Bambooee Reusable Bamboo Towels, which has a whopping 4.5 stars and nearly 500 reviews on Amazon. Not too bad if you ask me.
These are definitely good signs, but I decided to consult a few trusted experts before raving about this Reddit user’s smart skincare tips. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, explains that because bamboo fibers are so soft, they are very gentle on the skin.
What’s even more interesting, however, is what Sejal Shah, a RealSelf contributor and New York-based dermatologist, has to say. “[Bamboo] is more absorbent than cotton, and the bamboo cellulose fibers that make up the towel help retain and retain moisture, so a person’s skin can feel more hydrated,” she says, adding that skin products actually market for care products containing bamboo fiber specifically for this moisturizing property. (She’s right; this serum from Eminence contains bamboo and claims to deeply hydrate skin.)
So guys, what’s the verdict here? Are you planning to try this little-known trick? Because you can best trust me to do it. (Hey, there’s nothing I won’t try for softer skin, especially in winter.)
