‘Canada’s favorite paper napkins’ to be removed from shelves

       Kimberly-Clark, the parent company of Kleenex, announced it will stop selling facial tissues in Canada starting in August 2023, CTV reported Thursday.
       Todd Fisher, vice president and general manager of Kimberly-Clark Canada, said the brand is operating under extremely limited supply.
       “Despite our best efforts, we continue to face some unique challenges in our facial tissue business,” Fisher said.
       “This decision will allow us to refocus resources on other brands in Canada and meet consumer needs through continued innovation and enhanced value,” he added.
        Kleenex, which bills itself as “Canada’s favorite facial tissue brand,” thanks customers for their loyalty and ensures that other products such as Cottonelle, Viva, U by Kotex, Poise, Depend, Huggies, Pull-Ups and Goodnite will remain available for purchase at Kleenex stores.        “We thank you for allowing us into your home and want you to know how difficult it is for us to close a sale in Canada,” the Kleenex company wrote in a statement on its website.
       Earlier this year, Nestlé announced its decision to withdraw pizza and frozen meals from the Canadian market, similar to Kleenex’s move.
       John Carmichael, president and CEO of Nestlé Canada, said the decision will allow the company to continue investing in its core categories such as confectionery, coffee, ice cream, premium water and pet food.
       “This could be an opportunity for Canadian companies or companies based here,” he said of filling a gap in the market.
